What is Regenerative Treatment?

Regenerative treatment of joints and spine
Micro-invasive regenerative reconstruction has been used in Germany since 2013 for the most complex diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system.

Regenerative treatment is based on the natural ability of human body tissues to self-repair (regeneration). A comprehensive set of full-fledged micro-invasive surgical techniques and the use of autologous regenerative concentrates enable the activation of natural biological repair processes and reconstruction of structures damaged by diseases and injuries.
  • Areas of effective application of regenerative methods

  • Spine
Osteoarthritis and osteochondrosis, intervertebral disc herniations and protrusions, stenoses, etc.
  • Knee Joint
Synovitis, osteoarthritis, cruciate ligament tears, etc.
  • Wrist Joint
    Degenerative osteoarthritis, etc.
  • Hip Joint
    Hip osteoarthritis (coxarthrosis), necroses, etc.
  • Shoulder and Elbow Joints
    Bursitis, tendinitis, etc.

Core Principles of Regenerative Treatment

  • Micro-Invasive Approach

Micro-invasive intervention is performed without incision through a small puncture. Maximum precision of access to damaged structures is ensured by intraoperative navigation systems and purpose-built micro-dimensional endoscopes, epiduroscopes, arthroscopes, and instruments.
Absence of extensive incisions allows outpatient treatment, without general anesthesia, ensures high effectiveness of regenerative concentrates and rapid restoration of damaged tissues, minimizes the recovery period and allows the patient to maintain physical activity.

  • Biological Processes

Natural biological processes of the human body do not involve the use of synthetic drugs and materials. Regenerative concentrates contain only the patient's own cells and his biologically active substances. In the process of obtaining concentrates, no chemical, foreign to the body components are used.

  • Reconstructive Effect

Cells and growth factors mainly reduce inflammation and support tissue repair; how much the tissue recovers cannot be predicted. Parallel to renewal of articular cartilage, intervertebral discs, ligaments, muscles and bones, pain disappears, lost functions of joints and spine return.
Whether surgery can be postponed is decided by the clinic physician after reviewing the images and examining you.

Autologous Concentrates

A regenerative method uses two types of autologous regenerative concentrates:

  • CGF - plasma

This is plasma enriched with growth factors, anti-inflammatory factors and platelets, "obtained" from the patient's own venous blood.

Biological properties of CGF concentrate, ensured by the "direct" action of plasma factors, growth factors, cytokines and CD 34+ cells, include:

    • Anti-edema
    • Anti-inflammatory
    • Analgesic
    • Antibacterial

The result of the "indirect" action of CGF concentrate is:

    • Signal transmission to the body's own structures and initiation of production of growth factors and cytokines directly in the damaged area;
    • Incorporation into damaged tissue of new stem cells.
  • MFAT

MFAT – a concentrate obtained from the patient's adipose tissue, which contains a high concentration of lipogenic, regenerative substances.

As studies show, adipose tissue contains considerably more mesenchymal stem cells than bone marrow. Mesenchymal stem cells are capable of "transforming" into cells of damaged tissues and thereby initiating the process of regeneration of damaged structures.

MFAT technology for obtaining mesenchymal cells from adipose tissue:

    • Patented in 2010 and clinically available since 2013
    • Effective in treating osteoarthritis and arthrosis
    • Used for damage to articular and intervertebral cartilage, ligaments, tendons, and muscles

The MFAT method was included in 2016 in the list of the 11 best sports medical technologies in the world – Sports Medicine Technology Awards.

Stages of Micro-Invasive Intervention

  • 01

    Surgical Planning

Micro-invasive surgeries are characterized by a high degree of complexity and require precision in punctures and control of manipulations. Such interventions use technical devices for targeted navigation.

    Obtaining Regenerative Concentrates

Regenerative treatment uses only freshly prepared "pure" autologous regenerative concentrates, without additional synthetic additives or biological foreign impurities. All equipment (centrifuges and separators) is specially designed for obtaining regenerative concentrates.

  • 03

    Surgical Planning and Control

After the patient is positioned on the operating table, a series of images is taken using C-arm X-ray equipment. The program overlays the obtained images with those taken previously and adapts the virtual surgical plan to the patient's actual position at that moment.

  • 04

    Course of the Intervention

Micro-invasive intervention using a regenerative method uses micro-dimensional endoscopes, epiduroscopes, arthroscopes with high resolution. The size of the surgical accesses does not exceed 0.3-1.5 mm, which is comparable to the puncture of a regular injection syringe. As a result, tissue integrity is restored within several hours.

Method Advantages

Regenerative methods are used for many degenerative spine and joint conditions. A physician determines suitability after reviewing the MRI.

Treatment is performed in a targeted manner and on an outpatient basis. Large incisions are not required.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so it is possible even if general anaesthesia is not tolerated. Active cancer is a contraindication.

There is no strict age limit: the physician decides based on tissue condition and general health. Regenerative capacity declines with age, so the effect in older patients may be more modest.

Regenerative concentrates possess analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, ensuring rapid improvement in patient condition.

The intervention can be performed simultaneously on multiple structures, for example, on multiple intervertebral discs or multiple joints.

After treatment, there is no need to use mobility aids (crutches, braces) or special rehabilitation measures.

Treatment results are assessed using ultrasound, radiography, CT, or MRI 8-16 weeks after the intervention.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is regenerative treatment safe?
Yes. Since we use your own cells, there is virtually no risk of rejection or allergic reaction.
Is the procedure painful?
Most patients describe the procedure as very tolerable. We use local anesthesia at the injection sites. Blood collection feels like a standard laboratory test.
When will results appear?
Results develop gradually. Most patients notice improvement within 2–6 weeks, with continued improvement over 3–6 months. Regenerative treatment provides long-term regeneration that improves over time.
How long does a treatment session take?
A typical session takes 60–90 minutes. Complex procedures on multiple joints may take longer. You can return home the same day—hospitalization is not required.
Is regenerative treatment covered by insurance?
Regenerative procedures are typically not covered by standard insurance. However, many private insurers may offer partial coverage. We provide documentation for reimbursement claims.
Can multiple joints be treated simultaneously?
Yes, this is one of the key advantages of regenerative treatment. Multiple joints or multiple intervertebral discs can be treated in a single procedure. This is not possible with conventional surgery, where each area requires a separate intervention.
Are there age restrictions?
There is no strict age limit: the physician decides based on tissue condition and general health. Regenerative capacity declines with age, so the effect in older patients may be more modest. The method is particularly indicated for patients who cannot tolerate general anesthesia.
What is rehabilitation like after regenerative treatment?
No special rehabilitation is required. After the procedure, you do not need crutches, braces, or special rehabilitation measures. You return home the same day and can maintain physical activity. Follow-up examination is in 8–16 weeks.
Are the equipment and instruments protected by patents?
Some of the equipment and instruments used in micro-invasive interventions are protected by patents held by their developers. The portal is not the rights holder of these technologies, does not provide medical services and does not perform interventions.
